Broome is known as a historical pearling town, situated in the region of Kimberly. The location is magnificent , endless white beaches, turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, with a strikingly constrast against the red pindan cliffs. Its the perfect holiday gateaway to the wild Kimberley region.
With warm temperatures and a pleasant tropical vibe, this town has a real laid back feel. The town provides a wide range of resorts, guest houses, backpackers and hotels. There is something for everyone.
We were fortunate to find ourselves a Job on a mango farm which qualifies for our second year visa. Situated outside of Broome at 12 mile. We filled our days, serving customers, mango produce. Making jams, chutneys, smoothies, cakes and pizzas.
Over the last 3.5 months, we have discovered what Broome offers. The world famous Cable beach, known for its beautiful beach, being 22 kilometres of soft white sand has been the main reason for lots of travellers drawn in to this destination. We spent many days soaking up the sun and also enjoying many unforgettable sunsets. These days sunset camel rides are popular on this beach.
Strolling around Broome, you can discover all the boutiques, galleries, cafes and the multicultural weekend courtyard markets, or the Full moon night markets. Whilst working at The mango place I was fortunate to experience the weekend markets on a regular basics whilst working on their stall. Selling jams, chutneys and Soaps.
Broome provides lots of boat cruises and tours that travel passed the striking coastline. We enjoyed a sunset whale watching cruise, leaving Broome early afternoon, to discover Humpback whales pretty soon after embarking. It was a lovely experience seeing so many of them playing around in the water.
Broome also has some of the largest and diverse dinosaur footprints in the world. Gantheaume Point being one of the well known areas for sighting the prints this area has some striking red cliffs . A short drive from the town. These giant prints are fossilised in the rocky surfaces best seen at a very low tide. Often Markus and I would enjoy relaxing beside the rocks aswell as fishing. It truly is a lovely spot.
Over the months of March to October the full moons creates a beautiful set of steps over the Mudflats. This amazing phenomenon is known as the staircase to the moon. The best vantage is from the shore of Roebuck bay or Town beach.
Broome is defined by dry and wet seasons. we were fortunate to experience perfect weather from May until September blue skies everyday. A great spot to be for winter in Australia.
After enjoying a dry season and completing our 3 month farm, we plan to travel further north Via the Gibb river road.
Watch out for the next installment.
